Creating A Fun, Educational Vacation
Jan 20th
I grew up exploring the beautiful temperate rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.
As a kid my family’s chosen form of vacation was camping. I loved it. I was born a nature lover, so being outside all day was perfect. Back then the national and state forest had dozens of programs that were offered at campgrounds, as well as nature hikes, and other “educational” offerings.
I never once thought about the fact that I was learning something while I was on vacation. It was done in such a non-threatening way that I just soaked it up. I can remember the More >
Keeping Your Car Safe While You’re Away
Jan 13th
Is outdoors the best safest and most convenient place to park your car?
Luckily I’ve not had to leave my car at the airport very often. I’ve always been able to find a friend to drop me off. However, lots of people travel regularly and can’t always be asking people to taxi them here and there.
When considering where to leave your car think about what is important to you. If your airport is in a nice safe area of the city, which many aren’t, then you don’t have any concerns. I’m lucky that way. My airport has almost nothing around it, More >
Picking Your Summer Vacation Destination
Jan 3rd
Whether it's excitement, nature, or relaxation you can combine it all in one vacation using creativity.
Right now, during the coldest part of the year, most of us are dreaming of the warmer spring and summer months. This is a great time to start talking about possible destinations for your next vacation. The first thing you need to know from everyone is what they are looking for in a vacation.
If you have adults and children this may differ a lot, especially if you have teenage children. However, looking at what everyone wants in a vacation is an important step to having More >
Planning For Next Summer
Dec 30th
Mid-week camping can mean you have a pristine place all to yourself.
For many people the cold, harsh winter months are upon you. I’m lucky, I live in a part of the states that has cold and harsh, but also mild and warm. On any given week we can see snow and then temperatures in the mid to upper-sixties!
However, if you’re trapped inside right now, due to wintery weather, (I won’t say bad, because some people like it) then now is the time to start planning for next summer’s adventure.
If you’re like me you like to get out in nature a More >
How To Save Space Packing For A Ski Vacation
Dec 20th
It may be cheaper to ship your heavy ski clothing rather than try to pack it.
A summer vacation doesn’t really seem to be much of a problem. Throw in a swimsuit a couple pairs of shorts and tank tops and you’re good to go. However, when you’re going to be skiing just the sheer size and weight of everything you want or need to take with you is daunting.
Before you plan anything, check with your destination and see what they have available. No need to pack something you can get at your destination. With the cost of extra luggage and More >
Bizarre Places To Stay
Dec 15th
I was just perusing an article I had bookmarked on the CNN Money web site. It was all about unusual places to stay. They weren’t kidding. Sometimes I can’t figure out what the person who opened the hotel was thinking. For instance, why would anyone what to sleep in a room where the floor slants? The same hotel has a room that has coffins in it and a room that is decorated like a prison cell. Come on, who in their right mind would want to stay in any of those places? Also, there’s an ice hotel. You have to More >
When Flights Get Delayed
Dec 9th
We always hate to get to the gate of our flight and see the big “delayed” sign flashing. Flying is already less luxury and more endurance these days. There are hardly any perks and the seating seems to get more and more cramped every years.
What’s a person to do when they are looking at a long wait in the terminal? In looking around at what people were doing when I was waiting for a connecting flight recently I found two things that were at the top of the list, online games and cell phone calls. Almost no one was involved in More >
Water Fun All Year Round
Nov 29th
When I was a kid I loved to swim. I lived for the moment the pool opened in the summer and was sad when it closed for the winter. If you’ve got a water baby or two in your family then don’t despair, you can enjoy the water year round, even if you live where it’s usually too cold.
A water packed vacation can be fun in the Winter with indoor water parks.
There are Indoor Water Parks in Virginia and other colder northern states, where you can continue to have fun year-round. Some of them are pretty fantastic, too! Each one has More >
Glamping Shmamping
Nov 25th
I just read an article on glamping. I’m glad they didn’t use the word camping in there. There is nothing even reminiscent of camping in glamping, except that the sleeping rooms are surrounded by tent material.
I don’t know about you, but part of the “glamour” of camping is roughing it. If the tent I sleep in has hardwood floors, a down bed, hot shower, kitchen, leather sofa, and Internet access, it’s really no different than a hotel, except the material the building is made of. They’re just hotels. Some of them even have swimming pool, lounges, and chefs and butlers. More >
A Great Holiday Getaway For The Family
Nov 17th
Imagine the excitement in your children's eyes to eat with their favorite character for Christmas!
What gift can you give to the whole family that everyone will love? How about a visit to Disneyworld? What child wouldn’t love to wake up on Christmas morning and get to explore Disneyworld, Epcot Center, or the Hollywood Studios! I know I would have loved it. Unfortunately my family went their when I was only three months old. I was left behind with an aunt. I got back at them by cutting my first tooth while they played in sunny California!
Disney has fantastic events and More >
