Creating A Fun, Educational Vacation
Jan 20th
I grew up exploring the beautiful temperate rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.
As a kid my family’s chosen form of vacation was camping. I loved it. I was born a nature lover, so being outside all day was perfect. Back then the national and state forest had dozens of programs that were offered at campgrounds, as well as nature hikes, and other “educational” offerings.
I never once thought about the fact that I was learning something while I was on vacation. It was done in such a non-threatening way that I just soaked it up. I can remember the More >
Picking Your Summer Vacation Destination
Jan 3rd
Whether it's excitement, nature, or relaxation you can combine it all in one vacation using creativity.
Right now, during the coldest part of the year, most of us are dreaming of the warmer spring and summer months. This is a great time to start talking about possible destinations for your next vacation. The first thing you need to know from everyone is what they are looking for in a vacation.
If you have adults and children this may differ a lot, especially if you have teenage children. However, looking at what everyone wants in a vacation is an important step to having More >
Planning For Next Summer
Dec 30th
Mid-week camping can mean you have a pristine place all to yourself.
For many people the cold, harsh winter months are upon you. I’m lucky, I live in a part of the states that has cold and harsh, but also mild and warm. On any given week we can see snow and then temperatures in the mid to upper-sixties!
However, if you’re trapped inside right now, due to wintery weather, (I won’t say bad, because some people like it) then now is the time to start planning for next summer’s adventure.
If you’re like me you like to get out in nature a More >
Unique Christmas Holiday
Nov 8th
German villages are so quaint in the snow.
If you’re looking for something different to do over the Christmas break, you might want to look into leading a walking holiday. There’s an organization called HFHolidays that organizes walking holidays all over the globe. They have special holiday walks through the Christmas season.
If you enjoy hiking and sharing information about certain locations around the globe, speak more than one language fluently, and have time to spend a week at Christmas with others on holiday, this might just be a way for you to have a very low cost vacation.

Fall Color Alert
Oct 6th
Heads up to all of you that are planning a fall color trip. The colors are coming on fast and it will be over before you know it! Most people know about New England’s glorious colors, but other parts of the US have autumn splendor, as well.
I remember living in New Mexico. Not a place that you would expect to find fall color, since most of it is high plains desert. I happened to catch an article on a park near where we lived that was supposed to have some fall color. Having lived in New England I expected it More >
Cape Cod In The Fall
Oct 6th
One of the many piers you can walk on at Cape Cod.
Most people think of going to Cape Cod for the summer. Many famous novels have been set there, but usually during the summer months. However, Cape Cod doesn’t shut down just because the leaves are changing. Taking a quick glance at their upcoming events you’ll be sure to find something of interest. One of the biggest events is the annual Fall for the Arts Festival that runs the entire month of October. They also have a Fall Sidewalk Sale, many talks about maritime interests in Cape Cod, and of More >
With The Wind At Your Back
Sep 14th
One way to really see the the world is on a motorcycle. Traveling without the protection of a car can bring a much more intimate interaction between you and nature. You feel the wind, sun and rain. The need to be one with your cycle means you are more in tune with the road you’re riding on. You have more freedom.
Protective gear for all riders makes riding more safe and enjoyable.
Traveling by motorcycle may be the pinnacle of travel for some, but without the right motorcycle gear it can also be the pinnacle of misery. Although being exposed to the elements More >
Number One Mini-Golf Course
Aug 25th
You can see the volcano from every hole.
I’m a mini-golfaholic. I freely admit it, unashamedly actually. Whenever we pass anyplace that has a mini-golf course we have to stop (unless we’re on a business trip). So, I just found out that I missed my calling. There’s actually professional mini-golf! According to their site Hawaiian Rumble in Myrtle Beach, SC is the best mini-golf course in the world!
I grew up in a simpler time, when mini-golf was considered a real treat. Most courses, these days, don’t even come close to rivaling the worst course from my childhood days. You see, probably because More >
Getting Around Paris
Aug 22nd
For so many of us in the US, where driving is the only reasonable way to get around, traveling in Paris may be somewhat of a mystery. First off, driving in a foreign country is always an adventure. Even if they do drive on the same side of the road as us, there are always different traffic laws, signs, and styles of driving. When I visited India I knew in a heartbeat I would never be able to drive there. You’d have to be crazy to try it!
Anyway, the way to get around Paris is with a Paris Metro Pass. More >
My Vacation Memories
Aug 18th
Without looking at any photos I’m going to share the most memorable vacations I’ve had.
The first one that comes to mind is feeding the deer in the campground when I was around ten. Second was when the herd of buffalo surrounded out tiny little Honda, it was one of the ones about the size of a motorcycle with windows. It was magnificent and terrifying at the same time, because they were actually bigger than the car!
I remember driving through the Redwoods, over and over, one summer as I trekked to the ocean to spend the day and then home at More >
