Creating A Fun, Educational Vacation
Jan 20th
I grew up exploring the beautiful temperate rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.
As a kid my family’s chosen form of vacation was camping. I loved it. I was born a nature lover, so being outside all day was perfect. Back then the national and state forest had dozens of programs that were offered at campgrounds, as well as nature hikes, and other “educational” offerings.
I never once thought about the fact that I was learning something while I was on vacation. It was done in such a non-threatening way that I just soaked it up. I can remember the More >

Planning For Next Summer
Dec 30th
Mid-week camping can mean you have a pristine place all to yourself.
For many people the cold, harsh winter months are upon you. I’m lucky, I live in a part of the states that has cold and harsh, but also mild and warm. On any given week we can see snow and then temperatures in the mid to upper-sixties!
However, if you’re trapped inside right now, due to wintery weather, (I won’t say bad, because some people like it) then now is the time to start planning for next summer’s adventure.
If you’re like me you like to get out in nature a More >
Galapagos Islands – Land Of Mystery
Dec 6th
Maybe you'll get to watch baby giant tortoises hatch and make their way to the water!
I’ve heard about the Galapagos Islands since I was a kid, especially about the sea turtles nesting there. There was a lot of discussion about Darwin studying all the unique species found on these islands, too. I’ve always been interested in visiting, but never really got to looking into it. I didn’t even know for sure where they were located.
After surfing the net I found that they are located 525 nautical miles off the coast of Ecuador. I checked into visiting the islands and it More >
You Define Wild At Guest Ranch Vacations
Oct 28th
Vacationing at a dude ranch can be fun even in the winter.
The west was once termed wild, because it was untamed by western Europeans. Over the decades it has been glorified and memorialized in hundred if not thousands of books, movies, paintings, etc. You might be wondering, just how wild the west really was. Now you can take a vacation and experience it first hand.
For many being a dude on a ranch sounds fun and adventurous. With the recent blossoming of guest ranch vacations you can now define just how wild you want your western experience to be.

Where’s Patagonia?
Sep 5th
I always thought Patgonia was a city, but it is a region that covers more than one country. Situated in South America it covers a portion of both Argentina and Chile. It’s thought it got the name Patagonia, because Magellan called the people of the area patagón, which means giants. The people were believed to be the Tehuelches and nearly six feet tall. This would have seemed towering to the just over five foot tall Portuguese.
The area has a great diversity in geography and climate. It runs from coastal areas up into the Andes. The climate ranges from semi-arid to More >
Getting Around Paris
Aug 22nd
For so many of us in the US, where driving is the only reasonable way to get around, traveling in Paris may be somewhat of a mystery. First off, driving in a foreign country is always an adventure. Even if they do drive on the same side of the road as us, there are always different traffic laws, signs, and styles of driving. When I visited India I knew in a heartbeat I would never be able to drive there. You’d have to be crazy to try it!
Anyway, the way to get around Paris is with a Paris Metro Pass. More >
